We can’t believe it’s already been a year since we were in Yorkshire. Staying in a remote part of the North York Moors meant we were lucky enough to see rare wildlife, including Barn Owls. Other than a trip to Bempton Cliffs, we stayed around the North York Moors, and this is what we saw…

We had no idea hyena cubs would be this cute, and what an encounter to have with them!

This is a photo of a kestrel mid-flight with its vole directly in front of the sun. I only had the chance to take it for a few seconds but somehow managed to get this shot!

After a busy few weeks travelling around Thailand and Vietnam, we’re now back in Bangkok with lots of photos to share.

We’ve still squeezed in a few visits to Benjakitti Park in the past couple of months, though, as it’s our favourite nearby spot for wildlife and there’s so much to see there. Here’s some of what we’ve seen at Benjakitti, from passing migratory birds to those that call the park home.

Species pictured: Chestnut-winged Cuckoo, Scaly-breasted Munia, Spotted Owlet, Asian Openbill Stork, Chinese Pond Heron, Leopard Lacewing Butterfly, Asian Koel, Little Cormorant, Plaintive Cuckoo, Common Sun Skink, Brown Shrike, Black-naped Oriole, Great Myna, Olive-backed Sunbird, Indian Pied Myna, Ashy Drongo, Indian Pond Heron, Plain Prinia, Northern Treeshrew

The Red-shanked Douc Langur is the most colourful monkey we’ve ever seen. With an estimated wild population of just 3,000 individuals, finding them isn’t easy, but it was definitely worth the effort!

The best place to see Red-shanked Douc Langurs is the Son Tra Peninsula near Da Nang. Ten years ago, there were only 200 of these langurs at Son Tra, but now there are more than 1,000. Hopefully their population continues to grow, and more people get to see these incredible langurs for themselves in the future!

It’s not often you see a bird with two tails; introducing the Greater Racket-tailed Drongo. This unique species is found across South Asia, from India and Sri Lanka to Thailand and beyond.

Although they’re best known for their unusual ‘tails’ (which are actually two seperate extended feathers), they’re extremely clever and can mimic the calls of at least 40 other species. This imitation is used to scare away predators, attract mates, and trick other birds into dropping their food so they can swoop in and steal it.

Khao Yai National Park is a popular day trip from Bangkok, but for the best experience, we recommend staying for a few nights. That way you have chance to spend at least one full day inside the park, giving you more chances for encounters with its diverse wildlife.

Khao Yai is supposed to be one of the best spots in Thailand to see wild elephants, but unfortunately for us, we didn’t see any. That didn’t spoil it though, because we still saw all of this…

Owls are quickly becoming one of our favourite animals, even though they can be pretty elusive. There are 254 owl species worldwide, and we’ve only seen 8 of them so far, so we’ve got a long way to go!

Hopefully we’ll be adding more photos to our collection soon, but for now, here are the owls we’ve seen so far.
