Today while waiting for the next storm to roll in .hesp and I went to go see the Snow Monkeys in Jigokudani Yaen Koen, Japan. Apparently the onsen culture in Japan even extends to the wildlife.

60 centemeters in the forecast so don't think we will have to wait long for some epic powder.

Ella, Sri Lanka

We avoided the popular pilgrimage to Adams peak but made it up this much smaller hike called Little Adams Peak in Ella. The scenery in Sri Lanka was so diverse and spectacular. Ella is in the high mountains and has a cooler climate but Sri Lanka also has amazing beaches, and safari worthy jungle.

In Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka we were toured around the renowned Ceylon tea plantations. A lady is picking leaves and filling a large 1 kg bag she carries around on her back. Typically one worker will pick 8 kg per day!

I did not know but black, green and white tea all come from the same plant. White tea is from the new buds and green and black vary only through the processing method.

Nuwara Eliya was a favourite town of ours in Sri Lanka, with many old colonial buildings, a cool climate, scenic train rides, and of course some delicious and cheap local fare.

Our year abroad had been cut short. or put on hold. Really have no idea what our plans our next but we are starting our multi day journey back to Canada. We have had an amazing trip so far and very sad that it is coming to an end... for now.

So many great experiences and photos. Looking back on the last 6 months is hard now knowing we had another 6 months ahead of us still.

The Gilis off the coast of Lombok were beautiful and peaceful. There were no motorized vehicles. Horse and carriage were used practically by locals, it wasn't just a gimmick for tourists.

The snorkelling was good and I saw a few turtles 🐢 🤿 but apparently the coral reef isn't what it used to be as much has died off since 2010 😞

We went to Kuta, Lombok after to surf and didn't surf because of various issues but we managed to enjoy an amazing beach that we had all to ourselves. 🤷‍♂️ 🏖️

After several trips to the Visa office in Bali over the last 3 weeks we now have our extensions and are off to Flores today. 🛫

In some ways 4 months has gone so fast, but thinking back it seems like it was so long ago that we were starting our trip in Thailand.

In the last four months:

🏯 We have visited magnificent temples.

🙇‍♂️ We have grown tired of visiting so many temples.

🦈 We have seen whale sharks, thresher sharks and white tipped reef sharks.

🌀We have bikes through a
typhoon... and through amazing mountain passes
•
🏞 We have chased remote waterfalls
•
🏄‍♂️ We have tried to learn to surf
•
🤒 We have gotten tired of being sick 😷🤢🤕
•
📵 I lost my phone at the same time Alana's died.
•
⏳We have spent hundreds of hours in planes, ferries, buses and cars of questionable quality 🛩🚗🚍⛴

The best part of exploring Angkor Wat was finding a temple that was not crowded and getting to wander around without any crowds. When you were able to escape the chaos of Angkor Wat the other temples were peaceful and quiet, you could wander around by yourself in some places and marvel and one of the greatest creations of the ancient world.
