Adult Akech the South Sudanese/Australian supermodel made it to Time 100 Next..

TIME 100 Next is a new expansion of the TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world, the list highlights 100 rising stars who are shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, health, science and activism, and more.

If there’s anyone who embodies the future of fashion, it’s Adut Akech. Since making her major debut three years ago, the supermodel has scored multiple international Vogue covers (including the British Vogue guest-edited by the Duchess of Sussex) and landed coveted gigs like closing the Chanel haute couture show as the “bride.” Akech, who was born in South Sudan before her family fled to Kenya and later Australia, has also made concerted efforts to make the fashion industry more inclusive. Among them: calling out racism and amplifying the stories of her fellow refugees.

Meet Ger Duany, a South Sudanese born, ex-child solder turned a speaker, activist, actor, model, and an entrepreneur, and later on a UNHCR Ambassador of Goodwill to East Africa and Horn of Africa to raise awareness and understanding about the challenges facing millions of forcibly displaced people around the world, he stared in films such as I Heart Huckabees, Restless City, and The Nile Hilton Incident.

Sharing my story is cathartic. It helps me to rise above painful memories and contemplate how those experiences can be utilized to create good. It took many years for me to dare face the demons of my childhood. It meant reliving memories of war, commotion, famine and of seeing many of my friends and family members die."

Akuja de Garang

Never think you are too small to make a difference..

A South Sudanese designer Akuja de Garang was honored by Queen Elizabeth II of Britain with the Member of the Order of British Empire (MBE), which was established in 1917 to recognize contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organizations, and public service.
Akuja was awarded the MBE by the queen for her promotion of girls’ education and social development in South Sudan, the award is in recognition of Akuja's work in leading the Girls’ Education South Sudan (GESS) program, an intervention initiative sponsored by the U.K. Agency for International Development.

Akuja De Garang is committed to using fashion and the rich culture of a country ravaged by years of war, to unite its people and forge a new identity of peace, development, and progress. Her works feature contemporary designs inspired by South Sudanese traditional arts and crafts. In 2012 she launched her own clothing line, Akuch.
She is also an avid art collector who travels the country collecting remarkable artifacts and crafts, most of which she exhibits in a mini gallery in her home in South Sudan.

Her story is truly inspirational, and proves that small change can make a big difference.
