Two locations. Two very different stories. One public holiday Saturday. 📸
On 21 March, Through the Lens is heading out for our monthly photo walk across two of Singapore's most photogenic spots.
🏛 Morning: National Gallery Singapore (9:30am to 12:30pm)
Architecture and Geometry. Columns, symmetry, and light finding its way through grand interiors.
🏮 Afternoon: Chinatown (3:30pm to 6:30pm)
Cultural Narratives and Street Life. Colour, texture, and human stories tucked into every lane.
Each session is 3 hours in a small group of up to 8 participants. Personal coaching, real-time feedback, and time to actually practice what you learn.
Past participants share that these walks completely changed the way they see and move through a space. Not because of any single technique, but because of the practice of slowing down and really looking.

All you need is your phone and an open mind. Spots are limited to 8 per session.

Rediscovering My Passion—The Sistine Chapel through my Lens!

The recent news about the Pope’s passing and the choosing of the new Pope suddenly brought me back to the days of analog photography, when I first stepped into the incredible Sistine Chapel. I’m not Catholic, but the hashtag holds a special place in my heart because of its stunning architecture and breathtaking artwork.

That trip was short and super packed—6 days in Italy, mostly working hard setting up an exhibition booth in Milan, leaving just one quick night in Rome to play tourist. Our half-day tour raced through the iconic spots. But as soon as we arrived at St. Peter’s Square, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The majestic columns, the grand structures, I instantly reached for my SLR
camera, loaded with classic black and white film and started to capture the scene.

Then came the unforgettable moment: stepping inside the Sistine Chapel. I have no idea what our tour guide was saying, I was captivated by the ceiling's artwork by Michelangelo! The dramatic lighting, the details, the emotions, I was busy capturing the stunning artwork, and the way the light shined through the windows mesmerized me.

Back then, photography was slower and required patience. There were no digital previews or instant gratification! The real excitement came later in the darkroom, watching the images slowly come to life as I printed them.

To me, photography is still exactly that: slowing down, noticing beauty, and being fully present. It's genuine, human, and miles apart from the instant images we see generated by AI today.

Now, as I dive back into photography, I’m hoping to use it as a path towards mindfulness and storytelling. I’m excited to share more of these visual stories and adventures on my website (it's currently getting a fresh look!).

🎥 Rediscovering an Old Dream: My First Step into Filmmaking 📱✨
Once upon a time, I had a small dream of becoming a filmmaker. But life took me on a different path—I became a photographer, capturing fleeting moments through still images. Many of you know I’ve spent years behind the lens, telling stories through black-and-white portraits, close-ups of nature, and documentary-style wedding photography.

I’ve shot videos too, but there was always something missing. I never edited a full video that I felt comfortable enough to share. The clips would sit on my hard drive, disconnected, waiting for a story that I didn’t know how to tell.

Then, I attended a Mobile Filmmaking Workshop at Ngee Ann Polytechnic - School of Film & Media Studies, and suddenly, everything clicked. I learned that filmmaking isn’t just about recording clips—it’s about Ideation (The Why), Storyboarding (The What) Shooting & Editing (The How)

With these new skills, I created my first-ever short video—a simple yet meaningful piece showcasing my love for close-ups, flowers, and nature. 🌿✨ For the first time, I wasn’t just taking shots—I was crafting a story.

And in the process, something unexpected happened. That old dream of filmmaking reignited. I realized this was just the beginning, and now, creating a mini short film is officially on my bucket list. 🎬

This journey reminded me that it’s never too late to revisit a creative passion.
