Mini Tutorial on Cropping and Composition
Cropping is a technique that enables you to create great looking photos. In this example, I cropped the photo to a 16:9 Full HD aspect ratio. By cropping, I also removed visual information that does not contribute to the story (i.e. removing any distraction from the key message). About composition, you will notice the green colours at the top-right and bottom-left corners. They are the colour of the leafs. I intentionally shot this photo behind a potted plant, using the leafs to frame the subject - writing on the sticky pad.

Technical challenge: The shoot was not done in a studio setting. However, a studio strobe with an 80cm lightbox was used. The background curtain in the original pic is replaced with a studio backdrop. The photo now looks like it was shot in a studio. (Note: Facebook compresses the image file. So the quality is not high-res here.)

PHOTOSHOP TECHNIQUE

I want viewers of this photo to feel like they are inside the X-Wing fighter's hangar rather than visiting an exhibition. So I removed the exhibit barriers.

The Photoshop tools I used are: Clone Stamp, Pen, Brush, Paint and Selection. To ensure photo-realism, I varied the brush opacity and flow during the stamp cloning process.

The disjointed markings on the floor were repainted using this process: Create an outline of the curve marking with the Pen tool > Transform the pen-drawn outline into a selection (to be filled with white later) > Sample the colour values of the original white marking > Fill the selected area with the sampled white using the Paint tool > Adjust the Opacity of the filled white to blend in with the original marking's white > Touch-up the connecting points to create a seamless flow.

Care was exercised throughout the touch-up process to ensure that the vehicle's shadows are preserved. The floor was given a good tidying-up.
