11 years ago on March 23rd at 3:18am Mr Lee Kuan Yew passed away. I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph him many times and contributed the lead photo in the TIME feature tribute when he passed away. That photo was not suppose to happen as it wasn’t planned but when I saw the shot whilst setting up inside the Istana , I just had to do it and without skipping a beat he obliged.
“ Make this fast Russel as he hates the heat! “ as a staffer whispered to me ! Pressure! Did I hurry? Of course not and I had him doing another shot right after outside!
“ What’s next Russel? “ he would ask me. I knew this was going to be historical and I wasn’t going to stop until you made me. Photo : Russel Wong

Happy Birthday Chuck Loeb! Forever in our hearts and thanks for the sweet music from your guitar.
This was shot when I was on tour with Fourplay in Nagoya when they played The Blue Note. I was up in Chuck's room just messing around and doing some portraits of him not knowing he was not well. This was the last time I saw him. I will always remember the private times we spent together just chatting and having tebasaki wings!

Sir Mark Cavendish races his last pro race in Singapore and I was glad to witness an end of an era and also the greatest sprinter of all time. An all time record of 35 Tour de France stage wins. Thanks Sir Mark! Can’t wait for the next chapter. These portraits were taken in the riders holding area and he obliged even though he was swamped with everyone trying to get a piece of him.
