Part 1- 'Stolen from life'

I was on the wooden path at MacRitchie Reservoir. Trees towered me on both sides to form into a canopy so thick that no sunlight could stream through. I am hyper aware of every audible sound and every little movement in the peripheries of my vision.
I suddenly hear a low squeaking sound and see a creature emerge from underneath the wooden walkway. Its a monitor lizard squeezing the last bit of air out of this frog's belly through the vocal chords producing that squeaking sound and it gets lowers with every squeeze. It really felt like the frog is reaching out to me to save him before he was stolen from life.

'Too close for comfort'

I gasped and squealed when I saw this Asian Water Monitor on the walking trail just a stones throw away from me. Truly is an honour being in their presence and experiencing this majestic creature!

Alright the next 3 gruesome images will all be posted together on Friday night so as to rip off the bandage and not prolong the trauma. Im sorry in advance. But also 🀩

'Target acquired'

I was walking by a trail at singapore botanic gardens when I locked eyes with this menacing monitor. He turned toward me and flicked his long tongue in my direction to detect my scent. I mustve not smelled as yummy as whatever he was rummaging through the pile of dry leaves for was... so he went back to rummaging through the leaves to find himself a nice mid afternoon snack.

Im warming you guys upto the real gruesome images to come! Hold on tight!

'Not on my watch'

Monitors of Singapore can be found in virtually any water body in search of their next meal or fight.
These guys are super territorial and ive seen a little guy even scare away a full grown grey heron! They might not be the largest animals around or anywhere as dangerous as a Komodo dragon, but you better believe that they are the BIG BOSSES around here!

This is - Menacing Monitors a new 6 part series dedicated to these beautiful reptiles!

'Ive got a stalker'
1) I spot a purple heron --> I gasp and fumble with my camera
2) Purple heron spots me freaking out and fan girling
3) Purple heron takes off
4) Purple heron flies far far away from me
5) Purple heron goes and sits on the top of a tree where even my 100-400mm on a crop sensor is useless

In the end...
Baby oriental magpie robin got stronger and bigger. Her mama taught her all the tricks of the trade. Here she takes a little rest in the middle of flying practice --> Soon her baby coat began to be replaced by the classic black and white ones of an adult oriental magpie robin and she started hunting her own food in the midst of the dried leaves and twigs with mama --> And then the time had come, she was an adult and had to leave the "nest". She gazed one last time into the sunset as a gorgeous adult oriental magpie robin before flying off to have her own little baby. The circle of life continues...

The story continues with - Mama Oriental Magpie Robin πŸ•Š
Story series : The mama hears her chick calling to her and crying for food --> She tries to find a vantage point to look for worms and settles on this new sign post that the humans had put up that was the reason for all her problems --> She clearly does not approve of the message but she understands that its for the safety of her and her chick --> she continues her search amongst the vast bed of dried leaves and twigs and awaits the day that her chick will fly out the nest and become independent
