Black Grouse are a "red list" species in the UK, indicating declining numbers and habitat loss. During Spring, the males partake in "lekking", fairly aggressive displays to attract females.
It was quite a challenge to get these shots - 4.45am starts(lekking occurs around sunrise), 45-minute drives both ways, freezing winds on the North Yorkshire Moors, and some mornings literally washed out by rain, snow, and low-lying clouds.
