Less is more, when I was staring at the bright rising sun and saw a lone Great-billed heron that had just missed a strike. Ripples slowly expanding outwards as the colours faded.

Non-stop hunting!

The male Collared kingfisher was very busy indeed... it kept flying off the branch where the female waited (looking impatiently, it seems!), catching little fish and mud crab and bringing them back.

It did that a few times before finally allowing itself a rest and a bite: no rest for the wicked!

Sorry!

The male Collared kingfisher kept diving and bringing back food to its mate, nonstop... but it was so frantically busy going up and down that at one stage it did not seem to remember which branch was the female on and almost collided with another kingfisher already there!

Of course, a last-second flight correction by a master of acrobatics prevented a tangle of feathers and protests!

One look and gone...

As the tide was receding, I was waiting for the Pacific Swallows to grace me with some feeding action on the lone branch sticking out from the estuary river...

Alas, only one did land for a few seconds, gave me a sneaky look before taking off again! Better luck next time, it was telling me ;-)

There be dragons...

End of a long day, and the sun was out still hot and blazing, bathing the estuary river in a soft, warm golden light. A few of our resident crocodiles were also out, although not very active.

A large one rested in the middle of the receding waters, while two of the smaller ones were out and about, slowly moving out of their muddy resting places.

I waited until this particular one made a U-turn, uncurling and curling its body in a very slithering manner, its eyes catching the last of the sunrays before the sun disappeared behind the treeline.

Getting there...

It's been a few times now that I've heard the call of the Grey-headed fish eagles, and I have a good idea where to go next to capture them perched...

But in the meantime, I keep snapping pictures of them flying around the estuary and bridge from where I was observing the crocodiles.

Can't wait for the opportunity to get closer!

Permanent resident (continued)

Well, it seems a small group of those originally migratory Asian Openbills storks have indeed extended their stay on our shores. Have they decided to permanently stay? Seems that way...

Welcome to Singapore :-)

Playing hide-and-seek

I have not been that lucky those last few weeks, trying to click one of our Estuary crocodiles snapping its jaws on a fish... plenty of them to see, alright, but no action per se (apart from the mating behaviours I previously captured).

Need to keep trying while they keep playing hide-and-seek with me!

Memories from Namibia

Buried within the thousands of shots I took during that trip, there were a few birds of prey, generally taken from far away, like this African Hawk Eagle, perched high on a dry tree.

It was not initially labelled for processing, but reading back my notes, I then remembered how special that unique shot was, and that was just that: a single good shot.
