CDL, NParks and Ocean Geographic have jointly launched an exhibition themed “Melting Ice, Sinking Cities” at the zero-energy CDL Green Gallery located at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Opened by Minister Indranee Rajah, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development, the ceremony also featured a sharing by world-renowned marine biologist and oceanographer Dr Sylvia Earle.
During the event, CDL and NParks’ representatives placed letters detailing their worries, wishes and love for the planet inside time capsules alongside letters written by 120 ACE 2023 members. The capsules will be opened in the years 2050 and 2099 respectively, as a progress marker for achieving collective net zero goals by 2050 and a glimpse into the hope for a better planet for future generations by the end of the century.
Running from 23 June 2023 till March 2024, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey to the Antarctic, where climate change threatens the well-being of life across the globe. It showcases Singapore’s commitment to preserving our rich marine biodiversity and highlights the interconnectedness of climate change and the health of our ocean, people and planet.
As CDL celebrates our 60th anniversary this year, sustainability remains our priority. It is our wish that visitors from different parts of world will leave the exhibition feeling empowered and inspired to effect change in their everyday lives, no matter how small. Time is ticking and every action counts towards moving the needle to saving our planet.
