Happy 61st Birthday Singapore 🇸🇬!

A few days ago, I decided to try out this vantage point that I had seen before on Facebook. I arrived a bit too early and hence I had to wait about an hour or so before the blue hour finally kicked in.

The People's Park Complex red and white paint job really reminds me of the colors of the Singapore flag! This shot highlights Singapore's beautiful skyline and its older architecture like the People's Park Complex. I hope that Singapore will conserve such buildings for the future generations to admire!

Pacific reef heron.

A rare butterfly.

Pictured here is Block 168A at Mei Ling Street. This cool looking HDB block really stands out among the typical blocky looking designs that most of us are accustomed to and it has been nicknamed the butterfly block due to its shape.

Built in 1973, this block was an experiment by the HDB to try something new and different. I had seen photos of it online but had never been there myself and so together with Benjamin Ong, we decided to have a go at photographing it. The light was fantastic with some beautiful clouds but the location to photograph this block was not.

We had to stand right in front of a fire station situated directly opposite the block which was simply too near! With a lack of a tilt-shift lens, it made it quite a challenge. On top of that, we had to make it quick as we did not want to obstruct any emergency vehicles!

I quickly dialed in my settings and went for a quick handheld panorama. After some stitching and perspective corrections in photoshop, I was able to put together this 4 shot panorama that I am quite satisfied with.

A month ago, while scrolling through TikTok, an advertisement about the Singapore cable car ride popped up on my feed. After some digging and researching, Benjamin Ong and I discovered that the price of the cable car ride had been discounted from a whopping 40 dollars to just 12 for Singapore residents!

Having seen Darren Soh shots from the cable car, we were inspired to do the same! Without hesitation, we booked our tickets. While on the way up from the Harbourfront station, we were able to grab this shot. Featured here are some iconic buildings like the now defunct Harbourfront centre, VivoCity and the Prima mills/restaurant.

The last time I have been up on the cable car was when I was still a little boy so it was a nice change to ride the cable car as an adult with my camera in hand!

Rufous-browed Flycatcher.

Although common up in the hills of Fraser, this little flycatcher looks absolutely stunning with it's nice orangey plumage and white throat. Lucas Oh, Tan Lu San and I were rewarded with many good views of this species while waiting for the Pygmy cupwing!

Brown-streaked Flycatcher.

I last shot this species in 2022 and although it was quite confiding, I only had a short time with that individual before I had to book in and thus my shots weren't as good as they could have been. I have been longing to photograph this species again in hopes of getting some improved shots.

I decided to head to Kent Ridge park with Lucas Oh and we spotted this particular perch that we hoped it would land on. Thankfully, our prayers were answered and it perched there for a short while!

Taste berry good!

Red-whiskered Bulbul.

I recently had the privilege of photographing the nest of a pair of Red-whiskered Bulbuls. Lucas Oh and I decided to spend the afternoon at the Singapore Botanic Gardens to photograph this nesting pair. Although the nest wasn't in an ideal spot, the surrounding environment provided many nice perches for the parents before they flew in to feed their chicks.

While combing the area for some potentially good perches, I spotted a nice looking stick jutting out from the ground, with a clean background to match. I lamented that it would be great if the adults would land there and sure enough, one of them eventually did. Although Red-whiskered bulbuls are deemed as a common introduced resident, nailing good shots of one is no easy feat! We were treated to our best shots of this species that day and I hope to get more opportunities like this again!

Majestic Mangroves.

Grey heron.

While out on a trip at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves, Lucas Oh and I encountered this Grey heron standing nicely among the mangrove environment. We quickly swapped to our shorter lenses and began firing away. This wider shot was simply magical and it encapsulated the beauty and grandness of the mangroves!
