I recently collaborated with , a local HEMA community, on a personal photo shoot inspired by medieval armour.

Having always been fascinated by medieval armour from films and history, I wanted to capture it in a more grounded studio setting here in Singapore.

Initially, I planned to work with a model, but sourcing armour proved unrealistic. Thankfully, stepped in to make this project possible.

For the shoot, I drew inspiration from medieval and Renaissance portraits, focusing on form, posture, and detail.

A huge thank you to , , Jon Tan, and for their assistance. Special thanks to for suggesting the use of carpets instead of a canvas backdrop, it transformed the look of the series!

Lighting setup:
1x Profoto B2 with large octa (camera left)
1x large diffuser in front
1x AD300Pro with Aputure Spotlight for catchlight
Negative fill on camera right

Did a little bouldering personal test shoot back in March.

Got the idea after a work assignment for zaobao on a 51-year-old climber scaling up to 200m walls:
从7米室内转向200米户外 50+“蜘蛛侠”挑战极限

Thought I’d try shooting bouldering myself. First time doing it, thanks to ._ for linking me up!

While looking for references for the moodboard, I realised most bouldering shots out there were from competitions or events.

Fav shot’s definitely the first one of hanging with one hand. Lighting came out way cleaner than I expected, no glare in his glasses even with a silver beautydish as my key light.

Thanks for letting us use the space!

Lighting:
• Godox V1Pro + gridded silver beauty dish (key)
• Godox AD300Pro + gridded strip softbox (back)

Film crew in Singapore don't get enough appreciation, in my opinion. The amount of money, poured into commercials, ads would mean nothing if not for the hardworking people behind the scenes.

Throwback to some personal portraits I did of some lovely folks from the filmmaking scene in Singapore. I had the idea to do a series a la film posters of film crew in Singapore for a long time(the idea was classes from the video game team fortress 2), even pitched the idea (unpaid btw) to take some portraits on a film set.

Alas, time is money, and I think I never got a serious response from them.

As luck would have it, I had the opportunity to use a space at Peace centre to do some personal portraits. (thanks to .co ) having a studio, planning the logistics to do it with a lot of people would had been crazy expensive for me.

I hope to still be able to continue this (at least to cover every major film department role, the subjects have to bring their own equipment and it is unpaid) so if anyone knows a place, a space, people willing to help me on this, feel free to let me know!

You get the chance to get your own portraits, looking badass with your own equipment 😏

Now that the program has aired and embargo lifted, I guess I can share more photos of the hard work the Japanese film crew has done in '世界の団地に泊まってみたら' (I tried staying at housing complexes around the world. [Sorry, Google translate gave this])

The program was about what life is like in different public housing around the world. I first saw it from a Facebook post seeking for families or homeowners living in HDBs. I figured, why not, and reached out to them.

Specifically, they wanted to feature Tampines, so I guess my family hits all the checklist.

But also I thought the idea of it will be nice, public housing, and decent public housing (we can debate on how 'decent' it can be but even I think its pretty damn good tbh) is kinda rare around the world. Public Housing often have poor connotations, either for marginalised communities, criminal activity or poor social support, unlike in Singapore where a majority of us lived in it.

Many thanks to , , and Toshi, the film director, local coordinator and Cameraman for their hard work and effort in bringing this program to light. And also Mark for helping my parents to translate.

If you're interested, it'll be broadcasted in Singapore on NHK World Premium at 16:00(GMT +8), 10th Dec.

Oh fun lil fact, apparently the concept of a MTP (MEET THE PEOPLE) session from MPs to citizens don't exist in Japan and Hayato was very interested in filming it. Wasn't easy for coordination due to the red tapes but I'm glad it worked out!

To end it off I gave each of them a portrait they could use for either personal or work. Very simple 'corporate' portrait, just 1 ad600pro with a lantern softbox. Behind the camera, above and pointed down 45 degrees. Usually does the job.

He will be in Milan to represent Singapore and Asia at the finale of the , having won the same award for the Asian Region.

His dish is a lamb dish, inspired by his Hainanese heritage roots, using various cuts of lamb to achieve his dish.

All the best for the final competition!

Finally finished editing my photos from my first Paid photography workshop, with Studio 2020!

It was quite an intense experience for me to work on, but I'm glad we managed to pull it off, with the good folks at Studio 2020!

I covered various topics of the Hollywood period, from the cinema and movies of the era, to the lighting and the style, wardrobe and props as well as some of the makeup.

I fell in love with the period after seeing how it was done, by Chris Knight workshop from the website, ProEdu.

Through this workshop, I hope I've managed to help photographers in Singapore realised the importance and strength of the various other departments, like wardrobe and props, which helped immensely in bringing these images to fruition.

My heartfelt thanks also to Jimmy of Aputure Asia, for sponsoring our workshop with their incredibly powerful LED lights!

I look forward to hosting more of such workshops!!
