While My Guitar Gently Weeps: Stories From The Fretboard 2025
Part 4: Forever Delayed
“You’ve photographed people and their guitars, but how come you don’t feature yourself since you play guitar anyway?”
Someone actually asked me this a couple of months ago while I was asking around for guitarists to feature.
To be honest, I have never been comfortable in front of the camera. I’ve been so used to being behind it that it’s hard for me to stay still properly.
But anyway, it’s not often that I take my guitar out of the bag so while waiting to find other guitarists to feature I might as well share my story of how I ended up with the Epiphone Dove.
The first time I laid my eyes on a sunburst acoustic guitar was many years ago. It was a Guild D-55, a classic dreadnought that is rarely sold anywhere outside of the United States.
Some would say that the D55 is the archetypal American acoustic guitar that has been played by many legendary musicians since it was first produced in 1968.
Unfortunately I do not own a D55 because I can’t afford one (it’s really expensive) but over the years it has become a pipe dream for me to own a sunburst acoustic guitar and when I finally came across the Dove a couple of years ago I knew that it was the perfect replacement for my Yamaha LL16.
This particular Dove had quite a history behind it; it was found in a really terrible state by the previous owner before me who then went to great lengths to restore it to the condition you see now.
It had gone through quite a journey and these days whenever I have the time to play it I always could see flashbacks of myself and the guitars that I used to have through the notes.
That’s the magic of a classic sunburst for you ✊🏻
