Joined a photowalk by Chathay Photo and Grains and such to document the Tan Boon Liat Building before it makes way for another chapter of Singapore.
There’s nothing particularly monumental about this building, but perhaps that’s exactly why it feels meaningful. As a millennial, this is the kind of architecture I grew up seeing around — functional, practical, and very much of its time. Buildings like this become part of the background of our lives, until one day we realise they’re disappearing.
In a small, land-scarce city like Singapore, change is inevitable. Old buildings make way for new ones, and the city continues to evolve. That’s progress, but there’s also something nostalgic about documenting these places before they’re gone.
