Remembering the kindness of rain.
My photoshoot this evening was cancelled because of the rain.
I still left home (early) anyway, hoping it might stop. And if it didn’t, at least I could tell the family not to come and save them the trip.

I used to feel sad when that happened. Rain meant a loss of income for the day, even if we could reschedule later.
But after 16 years of shooting outdoors, I’ve learned to see it differently. The weather is part and parcel of my job as an outdoor family photographer.
I may not want the rain, but others need it. It’s a reminder of nature’s grace with every drop that falls from the sky.

Let the rain fall, I will come again another day.

Hello September, welcome to Singapore!
And also welcoming the start of autumn somewhere in the northern hemisphere.
The -ber months are here! I used to think of them as the rainy season, but weather patterns have shifted quite a bit.

I took this outdoor family photo of us with my camera on a tripod back in September 2020, during the first year of the pandemic when travel wasn’t possible. So I came up with the idea of a “fake autumn trip” in an empty park that happened to have some autumn-ish leaves. Probably the last time my wife agreed to wear something like that under the blazing midday sun. 😂

Being a family photographer, every time I lift my camera, I’m reminded just how lucky and privileged I am to do what I do.

To be welcomed into people’s lives, not just to take photos, but to witness and experience their laughter, love, and connection, that’s the heart of family photography. I am honoured to be trusted with their memories, to be invited into their chaos, their joy, their milestones, and the quiet in-between moments. And somehow, I get to call that my job.

Today, I celebrate 15 years in the business of family photography in Singapore. To say it’s been challenging is an under statement. Lots of tears, mistakes and heartaches; some of these almost stopped me from continuing, but none of these stopped me from loving photography. And these two beautiful women in my life have been my rocks. I wouldn’t be able to do this if not for their sacrifices, unconditional support, trust and love. Thank you so so much!
And you, my friends, my clients, strangers I met along the way, many became friends, who entrusted me to create your family memories in photographs, who supported me by spreading the words and who supported me with your words of encouragement, my sincere gratitude to you too.
