some of my favourite photos were taken when I wasn’t even trying.

my former years of photography were filled with exploring, walking around with a camera, shooting whatever caught my eye. anything also can. those were the photos that felt the most like me. but when photography becomes work, every frame held an expectation. must be sharp, composed, insta-worthy. you start editing in your head before you even press the shutter.

and slowly the play just... leaves. I didn’t even noticed until one day I realised there was an inner expectation to have all photos worthy of keeping and posting. if it’s slightly off, I would label it “not nice”. even on holidays. sian.

recently I joined a photowalk with and it reminded me what photography felt like before all the expectations. as a friend put it, photowalks are 10% photos, 90% walk. it reminded me the why of this craft, the discovery and exploration, and shooting what I feel and captures my eyeballs. maybe I do need to touch grass more often.

if you’ve been feeling the same way about something you used to love, stop waiting until you figure all of it out. just go do the thing.

just play 💪🏻🌚

real talk, I think about quitting at least once a year. like an annual check-in with myself where I go “eh, still doing this ah?”

and every year the answer is the same. still here. still caring way too much about whether the slightly blurred shot with more heart beats the technically perfect one. (it usually does, btw)

I think a lot of people see wedding photography and think it’s just showing up, taking nice photos, and going home. and honestly some days I wish it was that simple. but it’s not, at least not for me.

every shoot is different. some days there’s no game plan. you just show up, stay observant, and let the moments come to you. And somehow the best photos always come from THOSE moments, the unplanned ones, the in-between ones, the ones nobody asked for.

I don’t have it all figured out. I work a full-time job. I build this in whatever time I can find; mondays, weekends, late nights when I probably should be sleeping. It’s not glamorous and it’s definitely not easy. but every time I think about stepping away, the why of the work pulls me back.

not the likes. not the algorithm. the actual work. the part where you show up and something real happens right in front of you that no one else in the room noticed. and you got it. And months later someone opens their gallery and goes “wah, how did you even catch this?”

the reaction, that’s the thing man, because at the end of the day, this was never about taking pretty pictures. it’s about making sure your day, YOUR day, with YOUR people and YOUR weird inside jokes and YOUR family trying not to cry, doesn’t get lost. and one day when you need to feel it all again, it’s right there waiting for you.

so nope, haha. didn’t quit this year. probably won’t next year either because somewhere out there is a couple I haven’t met yet, and their story deserves to be remembered well.

if that sounds like the kind of photographer you’ve been looking for, come say hi. I’d love to hear your story 👊🏻

S & V | Some couples meet in extraordinary ways.
Samuel and Vanessa met by walking past each other at the gym. For months.

When we first spoke before the wedding, I asked what kind of photos they wanted. Samuel said something I don’t hear very often: “shoot what you like.”

Thank you for being exactly who you are. Two people stepping into the next phase of life together, with everyone they love watching, and a quiet photographer somewhere in the background, eating his dinner quickly so he wouldn’t miss a thing. 👀

K & YS | of all the couples i’ve shot for, this has been a wedding that i knew someone the longest in my life - more specifically the very dashing and sharp groom.

we watched each other grow up from our secondary school days, to have each other play a part in our weddings. im so glad to be able to do this for you both, to witness not only the journey since the start but also the front row seats in capturing this most beautiful of days. ❤️‍🔥👊🏻

S & A | my first wedding back in the same halls where i got married. it feels different now. sitting with the weight of memory, thinking about the families and loved ones who once filled these seats for my own day, and now watching them do the same for another couple beginning their story. 🥲

being back here reminded me how cyclical love is. how joy passes from one family to another, one generation to the next. and how sacred these ordinary-looking moments really are.

thank you both for reminding me that weddings don’t need to be grand to be deeply moving. I’m grateful to have had a front-row seat to your story. thank you for letting me be part of it! ❤️
