Visited the world's tallest twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in May 2019 and captured this split second shot of a lightning bolt about to hit the PETRONAS Twin Towers! ⚡🔮🌃

I only had one night to visit the twin towers and was quite disappointed when clouds started to gather and it started to drizzle at around 6.30pm, as it meant bad lighting and that I would not get beautiful photos of the buildings against a rich, warm sunset.

But it was a blessing in disguise — moments later, thunder rumbled and flashes of lightning lit up the sky. It was a beautiful shade of deep indigo! I quickly searched for an appropriate shooting spot — under a bridge, where I had shelter from the impending thunderstorm and the perfect angle of the towers if I crouched on the ground.

170+ shots later, I got this photo. 💜 This was my first time capturing lightning and it wasn't even planned: no tripod, water resistant lens, on-site recce, research, camera presets, nothing. Pure luck and I guess an adequate set of improvisation and photography skills. And it was an electrifying experience! We soon left and cabbed to have dinner at a food street in the pouring rain. Funny how crazy weather can sometimes make vacations way more memorable!
