Some sessions stay with you… long after the shutter closes.
This was one of them.
I recently had the privilege of photographing a strong and incredibly resilient single mother and her almost 3-year-old daughter. From the moment we met, I could feel the warmth of their bond. Her little girl—bright-eyed, bubbly, talkative, and full of life—instantly drew me in. It felt like I had known them forever.
We laughed, shared stories, talked about life, about work. It was just… real.
And then something happened that made my entire world come to a still pause.
Her little girl walked up to me, holding a photo frame close to her heart. She smiled at me and said she wanted to take photos with her daddy. A man I would never get to meet—but whose presence was deeply felt in every frame we captured that day.
Her mama gently told me they had lost him recently.
And in that moment, tears silently rolled down my cheeks.
I felt embarrassed. I was there to tell their story, not bring in my own emotions. But sometimes, stories are so powerful, so full of heart, that they move you beyond words.
This is why I do what I do.
To honour these fleeting moments.
To witness resilience.
To tell stories that matter.
Every person I meet, every family I photograph—they leave a mark on me.
And I’m endlessly grateful for the trust, the vulnerability, and the strength I get to witness behind my lens.
This was not just a photo session.
It was a reminder of love, loss, and the power of memory.
And I will carry it with me, always.
