Red filters are used underwater to counteract the natural loss of red light as it travels through water. As light travels deeper, red and orange hues are absorbed, leaving a blue or green tint in the image. By using a red filter, photographers and videographers can restore the lost reds and oranges, making colors appear more vibrant and natural.

Light Absorption:
Water absorbs light, particularly red and orange wavelengths, as depth increases.

Color Correction:
A red filter works by absorbing some of the blue light and allowing more red light to reach the camera sensor, effectively compensating for the loss of red light.

Improved White Balance:
The filter also helps the camera's white balance system by providing a more accurate representation of the color temperature underwater.

Enhanced Depth and Contrast:
By restoring the lost colors, red filters can make underwater images and videos appear more vibrant and have greater depth and contrast.
