" The Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens can appear soft because it was intentionally designed to prioritize smooth, "classical" rendering and bokeh over clinical edge-to-edge sharpness. This is a deliberate design choice rather than a defect, resulting in a few specific optical characteristics:Wide-Open Softness: When shot wide open at f/2.8, spherical aberrations can cause the image (especially at close focusing distances) to look a bit dreamy or soft. Close Focus Drop-Off: The lens exhibits noticeable softness at its minimum focusing distance (MFD) of 20cm when used wide open.Improvement at F/4: Sharpness and micro-contrast increase dramatically when you stop the lens down to f/4 or f/5.6.."
