I still remember photographing Paulyn’s baby boy’s birthday back in 2012, when I was just starting out in poly.

Back then I didn’t have much experience, my gear was simple, and my rates were only a fraction of what they are today.

But clients like her trusted me anyway.

That trust gave me the chance to learn, improve, upgrade my equipment, and slowly grow into what I do today.

That baby boy is about 15 years old now.

And today, 14 years later, I’m here because she referred me to photograph her friend’s mum’s 88th birthday.

I didn’t meet the same family again, but I felt the same thing…
being remembered, and being trusted.

Really grateful for the people who supported me when I was just starting out.
I don’t take that for granted..

A small moment from Henry and Doreen’s day.
Everything was still very calm… guests slowly arriving, settling in, chatting softly.
I always like these quiet parts before the ceremony. Nothing staged, just people being themselves, enjoying the sunshine and resort vibes

Some favourite moments from a very simple wedding at Esplanade.

It was a small room and a short ceremony. The solemnizer went straight to the point, but even in that hurried quiet space, Jia Ying’s broke into tears. Their feelings for each other were real and sincere.

Ser Kiat is the quiet type. Not someone who shows big emotions. Maybe that’s why they chose a simple ROM setting. And honestly, it doesn’t matter whether the venue is grand or not, their relationship and connection is what matters.

Whenever I’m invited to a simple wedding like this, I don’t treat it as “less important” or “not portfolio worthy”. They trusted me the same way any couple would. They paid the same rates as couples who booked hotels or photogenic cafes, and that trust means a lot to me.

I remember something the photographer James Day shared many years ago at a . He said there was once he arrived at a wedding and felt demoralised. The venue didn’t inspire him and he had no mood to shoot. Only later he found out that the couple had saved for months just so they could hire him. That story hit me hard.

Since then, I told myself that whether it’s a photo worthy venue or a small solemnization room, every couple deserves the same effort, the same heart and the same care.

Thank you both for letting me be part of your day.

This part made me stop and feel something.
Weddings always remind me how precious family is.
I’m just glad I can help keep these memories

The speeches that afternoon were something else. Everyone had something heartfelt to say, and it showed.. watery eyes and quiet moments that spoke louder than words.

Even me and the videographer teared up a little while documenting everything. I tried my best to find and frame the people being thanked, because even though I don’t know their stories, I know how important those moments are.

As a wedding photographer, I may be a stranger to their lives, but it still feels like my duty to preserve these memories as honestly as I can. It’s a real privilege to be part of a couple’s most important day, and I’m always grateful for that trust.

After everyone was ready, we stepped out for portraits around before the lunch reception. The light was soft and everyone was in good spirits tho a little sweaty..

This part of the day is always a little hectic as we try to finish portraits before guests arrive, but it helps when the teamwork flows well. The videographer and I worked seamlessly, taking turns and respecting each other’s space so everything stayed natural and smooth.

Benedict is a wedding photographer himself, so it felt a little special, and honestly a bit more pressure, to be the one capturing his big day. But once we started shooting, everything felt natural. You could see how comfortable he and Jin Ting were with each other, and every frame just came together easily.

Day 2 – Gyeongju
Took the morning train from Busan to Gyeongju. I wanted somewhere slower, less travelled.
Visited Bulguksa Temple, the National Museum, the tomb park, and the glowing pond at night.
On the way, I dropped off randomly at a local market just to see local life.. old ladies quietly tending their stalls, hanging out together, everything slow and peaceful.
Still sticking to my solo backpacker style: one night per hotel, move with the mood.

The morning started quietly at Fullerton, with soft light filling the room as everyone got ready.

I’ve always found this part of the day interesting. The makeup artists are focused, the families are moving around, and the room feels a little tense as everyone keeps to schedule. There’s something satisfying about watching it all come together.

That morning I also met the videographer and realised we had worked on another wedding before. It’s always nice seeing familiar faces again. There’s a natural teamwork that happens without needing to say much.
