A really bad idea. These are pretty fun cameras but should be avoided as the whole lens’s outer barrel and ring for changing speeds are hanging on three very delicate and weak fastening points on the shutter. On that little Synchro Compur. Those three points are just forced to sit with a little disc. They come loose of course and need to be riveted to get rid of that play. Oh well.

The proper tool for Leica IIIg. Before I got this tool I replaced that ring every time because it got so damaged it was not acceptable. New battery terminal installed in a Pentax 67. New focusing tab Summicron 35mm v2. I need coffee!

Voigtländer Color-Skopar with loose front. Pin to keep it in right position was broken off. Drilling out the rest of it, new threads 1.4mm and found a candidate for pin: the stop sitting on the Leica accessory shoe 🖖🤓

Following up on the rusty M3. Dissembled and cleaned. New film counter. The top screw holding the light baffle broke off and needed to be drilled out and re-threaded. Fun job, try to drill out steel in aluminium. But it went alright. Lots of extra time put into this piece. But it is always worth it.

Ok, kind of bored and thought that I could share some impressions regarding the Nikon rangefinders. What the Nikon SLR can do we are all aware of. This is the Nikon S2 and S3. Based on both Leica and Contax rangefinders. The horizontal moving shutter curtains are from Leica the rest from Contax. Quality really nice, almost Leica BUT ergonomics aren’t great. And that’s why they never were as successful as the Leica M series. The main complaint from my pov is regarding the lens and focusing construction/ideas. And the rangefinder and viewfinder aren’t as good as Leica either. Nikon and Contax have lenses without focusing helicoids, the focusing parts are in the camera. Saving costs on the lenses I guess. But it doesn’t work well. It has a built in infinity lock, which needs to be released every time you’re going from there (not with the 35mm lens). And that awkward wheel you’re supposed to focus with, but who does? Focusing throw is a hefty 45 degrees and closest distance is 0,9 meter or 3 feet. I really wanted to love these and use them, like those war photographers during Korea, but if you ever have gotten used to a Leica M2,M3 or M4 these really can’t match. However that 35/1.8 lens is truly a wonderful thing and will keep the S3 just because of it.
So, how many here are Nikon rangefinder guys? Are you more comfortable with them and the quirks than I am? I want to know.

Soon leaving the tools for summer vacation. One of the last patients is this beautiful black paint M2. White gloves on! Rolleiflex T, my love hate relationship continues…
And alas tomorrow is the summer solstice, 16.57, which is pretty much when I’m closing the shop. Just a coincidence or has it a deeper meaning?

Devil’s in the details… Leica M6 with not so distinctive shutter speed stops. The metal piece there which is supposed to snap into the stops on the speed k**b is prone to break off. With no parts at hand (at the moment) I put a piece of plastic under the broken “leg” and thereby getting more upward pressure. It works until a spare part is installed.
Next detail is a Hasselblad 500 C/M. The winding crank has been pushed backwards with force, maybe from a fall, causing the pawl to bend the mount where it sits. Not by much but enough to ruin the pawl’s function to lock the ratchet wheel.

A greeting from the past. L sealed Leica M4 with a personal signature under the flash socket. The Leica “L” is there as well. And exchanging the flash sync bridge with a part from . A Leica M6 from the batch of the last thousand produced M6. I wonder if the newly announced production of a new M6 is legal? Sue Leica if you own one of the last ”1000” 😉

Men kan nämna för er att jag testar att bleka de radioaktiva (SIC) och gulnade glasen i ett Canon-objektiv 35/2 f16, med IKEA-lampan Jansjön. Jansjö är f.ö namnet på en söt liten by i Västernorrland.
Första bilden syns den helt gulnade linsen, den andra efter 24 timmars bestrålning. Nu får Jansjön mörsa på här tills att optiken är i stort sett transparent. Om det kommer att ske.
