Sparvuggla | Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) – Södermanland, Sweden – January–February 2026

Finding and photographing a Pygmy Owl was without a doubt one of the true highlights of this past winter. I had several great encounters in the local forests with the owl in the dim winter light. Despite its tiny size—barely larger than a bullfinch—this little owl has an incredible presence and a stare that really holds your focus. Here are a few favorite shots from those cold winter days around the turn of the month.

September Sessions at Skälderviken, Skåne

Spent some days photographing the autumn migration shorebirds in September 2025. This series features first-winter (1k) Red Knot / Kustsnäppa (Calidris canutus) and Curlew Sandpiper / Spovsnäppa (Calidris ferruginea) moving through Skälderviken in large numbers.

The conditions varied from early, quiet mornings with a dense fog hanging low over the still water, to late evenings providing that clean, soft afterglow once the sun dropped completely behind Kullen.

Working with large flocks of shorebirds like this requires a lot of drysuit crawling to get the right distance, angles, and clean backgrounds—but the light at this time of year makes it all worth it.

Here is a selection of frames from the series.

Always a highlight to cross paths with this one. A personal favorite — the Broad-billed Sandpiper, showing off those beautiful, intricate summer plumage details.
