Wow. 10k. Pretty unbelievable.

My first ever commercial shoot was on April 2, 2021. Photography had been quietly sitting underneath my years in music for a long time, but I never imagined it would end up changing my life this much.

386 commercial shoots later, it has completely taken over.

And somewhere along the way I realised what I love most about photography.

It freezes time.

It doesn’t matter if you photograph a coffee shop, your mother, your dog, a stranger in the street or someone you love. Twenty years from now, that place may be gone. That person may have changed. Life will have moved on.

But that frame will still exist.

A photograph becomes a tiny time machine. A piece of history that nobody else will ever capture in exactly the same way again.

And it really doesn’t matter if you make it with a phone or a $15,000 Leica. Nobody remembers what typewriter wrote the great novel, or which brush painted the masterpiece.

The important thing is that you made it.

I’m 46 and made this pivot pretty late in life. I’m very glad I did.

This is the thing I never want to retire from. It’s the thing I’d still be doing if I won the lottery tomorrow.
