Have not touched my camera since spring other than for a quick job. Felt inspired today after going out, and wish to do this more often. Unfortunately dragged myself out a little late so did not get much time with the last light of the day. Still feels great to be on my own outside doing something creative just for fun.

Big issue for a long time has been that I put pressure on myself and that I have been doing photography for work. That takes the fun and creativity out of it. I wish to do photography for me, on my own conditions, how and when I want to. I no longer care what anyone thinks of my photos, only what I think, if even that. They do not have to be good all the time, it is part of progressing that they are not. It is a subjective thing too. There are no rules to photography really.

I am rarely happy with my photos, and if I am, only temporarily. Yet I can still do it for fun and to try learn.

For next time, I wish to work on getting sharper photos without any shake (newbie with tripod and flash). Another thing is calibrating my screen, pictures do not look like they do on the computer...

Caught in the act😳

Species: Common Toad (Bufo Bufo)
🇸🇪 Vanlig Padda

They normally live on their own with the exception of mating, as is happening during the period the photos were taken. They are crazy!!! I am quite sure they drowned the female who is underneath the others (cannot be spotted) in the first picture, there was a toad that looked discoloured... I read that it actually happens. Great way to make sure your species survive😆

Can live for up to 12 years.

Found in most of Europe, parts of North Asia and Northwest Africa.

Photography:
I'm a beginner with macro and nature photography, the amount of times I've been trying out my Canon 100mm macro I can count on my hand. I've mainly done horse photography before which is sports & portrait. Look forward to trying this!

I'm happy to have stumbled upon this great opportunity of capturing these toads. They were a bit scared of me at first but as long as I remained still they didn't mind me and got used to me. This made it possible to come close eventually. Was limited with angle opportunities. The water was tricky to get into, had a bit of an incident. Tried to walk in with crocs on, knew it was muddy and that you could sink (know this from experience, lost a shoe this way once), looked fine yet half my leg went down in the mud even though I was careful. Kind of fell, made sure camera was held high, and pushed myself up with one hand. Should have filmed myself, hilarious!🤣

Very challenging with macro, handheld in natural light. Most difficulties were with focusing, did both MF and AF, as well as getting the settings somewhat. Would have liked a higher aperture maybe, this was what the conditions allowed. Could have set the ISO a bit higher probably.

Regarding editing I tried to make the photos be true to the natural scene. Quite harsh light. I am editing on a new laptop so not used to the screen, the highlights are a bit too much and photos maybe a bit too warm, though the scene was like that.
