I want to share something really special with you.
About a year ago, my family and I bumped into a neighbour and friend, with whom I did a documentary family session in 2017. We talked, I asked how she was. "She had to be front" and told me she was feeling really bad. She was suffering from Gravidarum Hyperemisis* but it was still early in the pregnancy.
I had been secretly wanting to photograph a birth ever since I gave birth to my own child and it just kind of jumped out of my mouth before I even had a chance to think about it; "Can I shoot your delivery?" Her first reaction was "Yes!" and then she realized she had to think and talk it over with her partner 😅
We spoke back and forth for the rest of 2018, shaping a contract together and speaking of all the different scenarios we could think of.
Along came January. The family's first baby came early so we were pretty sure number two would, too. I cleared my calendar (almost) only up until the due date instead of the two weeks before/two weeks after as I've heard is the way "they" do it. "They" as in the birth photographers. 😜
For some reason I had forgot to put the sound back on onto my phone that night so they called the backup number (my partner) and I think I have never gotten out of bed so quickly. They said he sounded like he takes those kind of calls every night, so calmly.
And then, this happened. Let me present to you, the very first of my birth photography sessions (with all the hard work credit to Mom and Dad here) -
The Birth of Baby T
Thank you A&P for letting me be a part of this journey with you!
