A Kenyan coffee trainer, Prince David, is sharing professional barista and hospitality skills with Somali youth—showing how knowledge can cross borders and create new opportunities.

Through hands-on training, young people are gaining practical skills that can support employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods. More than coffee, this is a story of 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙆𝙚𝙣𝙮𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙖.

Every skill shared is an investment in a young person’s future—and another step towards a more connected IGAD region. ☕🤝

📸 Pleased to photograph the 𝗪𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗮𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 with IMS (International Media Support) and SOMA, documenting an initiative that promotes social cohesion and positive change in Somalia.

How can syndicating weekly radio episodes promote social development, cohesion and reconciliation? Somalia’s Wadaag initiative, implemented by the Somali Media Association (SOMA) and supported by IMS, highlights community-driven stories focusing on health, education, governance, livelihoods and youth and women’s participation.

It amplifies local voices, connects communities from conflict-divided regions and contributes to improved public awareness, informed dialogue and citizen participation in social issues.

A new assessment study looks at the episodes and reports produced, as well as impact analysis, key achievements and good practices: https://www.mediasupport.org/publication/wadaag-content-sharing-programme-implemented-by-soma/

Honored to have covered the U.S. Embassy Mogadishu’s celebration a high-level diplomatic event that brought together government officials, diplomats, partners, and distinguished guests in celebration of the enduring values of freedom, friendship, and cooperation.

Moments like these remind me why I’m passionate about documenting stories that matter.

This year’s celebration of Somalia’s 66th Independence Day was truly different from last year’s, with greater energy, unity, and national pride. Soldiers proudly led the celebrations, reflecting the country’s resilience and the shared hope for a stronger, more peaceful Somalia. 🇸🇴

As a photographer and visual storyteller, I was honored to contribute to discussions on strengthening Somalia’s creative economy and creating more opportunities for creatives.

Somalia is rich in talent, culture, and creativity. With stronger support systems, market access, and investment, the creative sector can become a powerful driver of economic growth and social impact.

Grateful to be part of this important conversation alongside fellow creatives and industry stakeholders.

I’m honored and truly happy to be among the winners of the photography competition organized by the UK in Somalia

This recognition means a lot to me, not only as a photographer but as someone passionate about telling authentic Somali stories through images.

The photograph I submitted was taken in Beledweyne in October 2025, capturing young people performing a vibrant traditional dance that reflects the beauty of our culture, unity, and shared identity.

It’s a moment that shows how tradition continues to bring people together across generations.
