Apparently it's World Milk Day today, so I thought I'd share a few thoughts about dairy along with a photo of my sweet mini American pancakes. 🥞
I remember one day in kindergarten I got forced to drink a tasteless glass of milk, and the feeling of it made me sick to the point I wanted to vomit. And I've got extreme fear of vomiting. 🤮 Since then I've never drank milk on its own, but I like to cook with it in the kitchen. And I'm a huge fan of dairy products in general, because I like creamy food. You all know I'm in love with cheese!! 🧀❤️
There are a few changes I've made recent years when consuming and buying dairy products. I don't always follow it, but when I can I do. I think it's been beneficial so I'll share it with you:
▪️ Avoiding pasteurized milk and dairy products. Instead going for the least processed or raw milk that hasn't been heat-treated nor homogenized. This ensures that the product is closer to it's natural state, including more natural enzymes, beneficial bacteria and nutrients. I wouldn't like to pay for a depleted product which might lead to intolerance. The enzyme lactase help break down lactose, so it's potentially easier for people to digest. Also, there's no big reason to consume milk if the nutrients are gone. I learnt in cooking school about the importance of killing the bacteria because of the risk of pathogens... But seriously, using my brain today tells me nature does not intend to kill us. Human interventions do. The bacteria in raw milk is there for a reason and our bodies should know how to deal with it. And I don't like all the modern products with additives, low-fat and texture fillers. Often a scam!
▪️ Choosing local and organic. I like to support better farming practices where chemicals and antibiotics aren't present or at a bare minimum. It affects the animals, the environment around us and in turn, us humans. I wish the animals to be treated as good as possible. Happy cow, happy soil, happy human! 🐄🌱🌞
