Seasons of Åre - April 2025
The Aurora forecast was promising last Tuesday and I decided to spend the night close to the summit of Mt. Åreskutan. I had pre visualized two compositions that I knew would come out pretty good if the Aurora was to put up a show. Indeed, the show was pretty good up there from time to time, but the cloud coverage was unfortunately too prominent. The first image is the actual summit and as you might see, the Aurora is, although behind the clouds, on display for sure. The second image is a test shot of Mt. Västerskutan with Ullådalen and Skäckerfjällen in the backdrop. My hope was that the Aurora would play around in the upper two thirds of this composition. That obviously didn’t happen. Still happy I went there, it’s a memorable experience to be completely solo high up on a mountain in the middle of the night.

Seasons of Åre - March 2025
Last week I spent the night between Wednesday and Thursday in Ullådalen, and at 00:46 AM I was finally able to make one of the remaining images that I was lacking for the book. So happy how this one turned out - I love the contrast between the black space and the intense aurora. Thank you, sun! ✨

A midwinter favorite from the lovely January 2021. Captured on Mt. Förberget in Åre Björnen. Can you see the perfect curve of tracks that leads in to the composition from the bottom left corner? Big thanks to the fox(?) who added that extra component to my image 🙏🦊

Seasons of Åre - midwinter
Can you feel the cold? It was below -20°C and I struggled to find a composition that felt balanced. With the rising moon slowly moving across the frame, I had to correct my tripod over and over again. That’s no problem in the summer, but in this temperature my hands were desperately freezing - almost at a point where I couldn’t even handle the camera. I’m happy with the final image though, it looks so calm (despite the fact that the conditions were everything but calm behind the lens). It’s captured close to home on my beloved Mt. Förberget in Åre Björnen ✨

Seasons of Åre - January 2024
”How are things going with your book project?” I get that question a lot these days. And the answer is: really good! I have more than a hundred images that I’m really proud of. Currently I’m deep in the process of sequencing and creating chapters, and step by step getting closer to my desired final selection of about eighty images. Before I consider myself done and can move on to finalizing the book I still have a couple of specific aurora images that I want to capture this winter, though. Right now hoping for at least a couple of nights with clear skies and strong solar activity before the aurora season is over. That will hopefully be enough 🙂✨

Seasons of Åre - January
A favourite with a story…
It was late January four years ago, right after sunset and the landscape was absolutely calm. No wind, no one else around and perfect cold light snow. My mind was the absolute opposite. I was going to pick my three kids up from preschool and school about 25 minutes after this image was captured. I saw the potential in the scene and I was pretty stressed out to nail the composition. Finally I got it and skied home, and then I drove to the school in Åre village. So happy that I was able to capture the image exactly the way I wanted, and most important, I was not late for my kids 💙
