Just over a year ago I published the online version of Exif Fixer, my app for calculating and inserting the necessary metadata for panoramic images to work interactively on Facebook, Flickr, Google services, mobile photo albums and so on. (I know, I know – say "metadata" and watch everyone's eyes glaze over... but the interactive result this allows is wonderful!)

Since then the Exif Fixer Online service has fixed a little over 20,000 images, which is an average of over 50 a day. (That's in addition to the unknown numbers of image fixed with the Exif Fixer app for macOS, Windows and Linux, which have been downloaded around 100,000 times.)

It's really heart-warming to know this free tool has helped so many people get so many images fixed and working as cool interactive panoramas!

Panoramic images can display as interactive 'look around' scenes in Facebook, Flickr and elsewhere, but ONLY if the images have the right metadata. London in Lockdown: a 360 series in development
I'm capturing different areas in London, showing how things feel during this pandemic lockdown period. This is a project that will take a while to complete, but here's one of the scenes: Wimbledon, in the heart of the shopping area, in the middle of the afternoon on a weekend. Normally I wouldn't be able to walk in a straight line for a couple of metres without bumping into someone... :-O

EXIF FIXER NEWSFLASH
Exif Fixer for Mac was affected by an Apple security restriction, but the issue has been fixed.

The Mac version of Exif Fixer was briefly affected by an Apple security restriction when it is downloaded. An alert incorrectly claimed the app is damaged and should be thrown away. This is no longer the case; the problem has been fixed and the software is now fully codesigned and notarised (translation: it's approved by Apple as being safe and secure).

Background:
I created the free Exif Fixer tool to help people post panoramas (full spherical 360s, 360 cylinders and 'partial' panoramas under 360 degrees) to Facebook. This calculates the necessary metadata and inserts it for the user, saving them enormous headaches.

From a job two years ago, capturing a historic chapel in East Sussex, in the UK. This curious corridor with its right-angle bend was unexpectedly modern, but I liked the subdued light and stained-glass windows.

A music video shoot location. It was a particularly strange, almost unnerving video, set to a liquid drum n bass track by Conduct (Blu Mar Ten records). A fascinating place that no longer exists; the building has since been demolished.

Snow can entirely transform an environment. This was shot in Mitcham Common in South London, not long before sunset; the muted hues and the almost-dusk light create a curious mood. This looks particularly good as a flat print as well as an interactive image.
