they asked if i do this kind of session. i said i can, just not the way it’s ‘normally’ done. that i’d shoot it like i shoot everything else, more like a memory than a photo.

i take the camera everywhere. not only for the landmarks, but for the light on a wall, someone standing in a frame, a light and shadow mix that only exists for few minutes, or a contrasting scenario on whatever objects I pass by.

the photo gets made twice. once when i press the shutter. once in Adobe Lightroom , months later, at 1am.

for a long time those felt like two separate processes.

now i mostly see the final result while i’m getting the frame.

Before you cull, read this.

We’re trained to reject “imperfect” fast: the slight blur, the off-composition, the frame that breaks the rules. But technically correct and emotionally alive aren’t the same thing. Sometimes the flaw is the feeling.

Before you trash a frame:
→ Sit with the rejects 24 hours before deleting
→ Ask if the flaw adds emotion or just distracts
→ Keep a “second look” folder

Save this for your next cull, or send it to a friend who culls too fast.
