As a kid, growing up in communist Romania, I have always been intrigued by American cars, since there simply was no information about them. The boxy police cars that I saw in the films were the biggest mistery of all. What were they??? Even though you couldn't buy foreign cars over here in that time, everybody was pretty knowledgeable when it came to European models, as they were lusted and desira
ble. Throughout the years I soaked up whatever info about American cars I could, just like a sponge, and when in the internet hit my house in the mid to late 2000's I probably spent a few good weeks online reading about various stuff, but mostly American cars and metal bands. In 2005 I drew and cut stencils of American cars that were inspired by large magazine prints: Chevelles, Torinos, Eliminators, Rivieras...
This year I took a trip to the USA and spent almost a month in Colorado and Iowa. I didn't think I was going to be overwhelmed by classic muscle of the sixties and seventies, not to mentioned curved cruisers of the fifties or the odd hot rod, but I truly expected to see more of the bland eighties and nighties vehicles. I don't quite like newer cars and I realized that the subjects of my passion are becoming an endangered species. This is why I started to document them, as it is the least I can do. This is a page about American car culture, so you will also see various Japanese and European cars here.
