📷 Ferestraș mare/ Goosander / Mergus meganser

🇷🇴 O frumusețe de pasăre pe care mereu am văzut-o la distanță considerabilă. Și acum a fost la fel, dar am ales să vă arăt și talentul de balerin al acestui mascul care de fapt alerga să își ia zborul iar femela era puțin în fața lui. Este puțin mai mare decât o rață mare, cuibărește pe lacuri de acumulare și râuri de munte repezi și este mult mai numeroasă în nordul Europei. Pentru a avea succes la pescuit ciocul lui are zimți de fierăstrău pe margini de unde îi vine și numele.

🇬🇧 A beautiful bird that I’ve always seen from a considerable distance. It was the same this time, but I chose to show you the 'ballet skills' of this male, who was actually running to take flight while the female was slightly ahead of him. It is a bit larger than a Mallard, nests on reservoirs and fast-flowing mountain rivers, and is much more numerous in Northern Europe. To ensure success while fishing, its bill has saw-like serrations along the edges—which is exactly where its Romanian name comes from.

🇷🇴 Cea mai mică pasăre de la noi! Iubește coniferele și dacă mă întrebi pe mine, este o neastâmpărată. Am văzut-o de mai multe ori dar e într-o continuă mișcare că mi-a fost aproape imposibil să o pozez. Plus că se ascunde bine printre multe crengi nu reușești să o distingi în poză. Din punctul meu de vedere e o frumusețe.

🇬🇧 The smallest bird in our country! It loves conifers and if you ask me, it's a bit of a mischievous bird. I've seen it several times but it's so constantly moving that it was almost impossible for me to take a picture of it. Additionally, it hides well among the many branches, so you can't distinguish it in the picture. From my point of view, it's a great beauty.

🇷🇴 Una dintre cele mai frumoase păsări întâlnite în Kenya până acum. În regiunea unde am fost există mai multe specii de turaco dar din păcate asta a fost singurul nostru moment în care am putut vedea și poza o pasăre din aceste specii superbe. Am zărit foarte departe și un Great Blue Turaco dar n-a fost să fie să îl pot fotografia. Mă bucur tare mult de această întâlnire.

🇬🇧 One of the most beautiful birds I've seen in Kenya so far. There are several species of turaco in the region where I was, but unfortunately this was the only time I was able to see and photograph one of these magnificent species. I also saw a Great Blue Turaco very far away, but I couldn't photograph it. I'm really happy about this encounter.

🇷🇴 Babuinii sunt cunoscuți pentru botul proeminent și coada scurtă. În Kenya se găsesc trei specii de babuini iar eu am văzut două dintre ele. Caracteristicile celor măslinii pe lângă culoarea care le dă și numele, sunt robustețea (cei galbeni sunt mai supli) și fața neagră sau foarte închisă la culoare. Structura lor ierarhică este similară cu a altor maimuțe dar ei se remarcă prin inteligența socială. Masculii cresc în ierarhie și prin „politicianisme” nu doar prin lupte. Și atunci când încearcă să comunice cu alt individ, dacă remarcă faptul că nu sunt observați atunci își schimbă comportamentul pentru a-și atinge scopul.

🇬🇧Baboons are known for their prominent snouts and short tails. In Kenya, there are three species of baboons, and I have seen two of them. The characteristics of the olive baboons, besides their color which gives them their name, include their robustness (the yellow baboons are more slender) and their dark, almost black face. Their hierarchical structure is similar to that of other monkeys, but they stand out for their social intelligence. Males rise in rank not only through fights but also through “politicking.” And when they try to communicate with another individual, if they notice they are not being observed, they adjust their behaviour to achieve their goal.

🇷🇴 Mi-a plăcut de el mai mult decât de cel mare de la prima întâlnire și de atunci îl caut mereu în deltă. Nu doar dimensiunea lui este mai mică decât a cormoranului mare dar și numărul indivizilor. Ambii au avut mult de suferit de pe urma transformării zonelor umede în arii agricole pe timpul lui Ceaușescu și mai au în continuare din cauza pescarilor care consideră că duc o luptă cu aceste păsări pentru pește. Mulțumesc lui pentru acest portret!

🇬🇧 I liked it more than the great cormorant from the first meeting and since then I have always been looking for it in the delta. Not only is its size smaller than the great cormorant but also the number of individuals. Both suffered a lot from the transformation of wet areas into agricultural ones during the Ceaușescu era and they still do because of fishermen who consider themselves to be fighting these birds for fish. Thanks you (him) for this portrait!

🇷🇴Deși o antilopă răspândită în diferite habitate (de la savană, la păduri tropicale și chiar zone montane) e prima dată când o văd în Kenya iar în Aberdare e destul de des întâlnită. Când simte pericol, îngheață pe loc și se bazează pe camuflaj, nu pe fugă imediată.

🇬🇧Although it is an antelope widespread across different habitats (from savanna to tropical forests and even mountainous areas), this is the first time I’ve seen it in Kenya, and in Aberdare it is quite commonly encountered. When it senses danger, it freezes in place and relies on camouflage rather than fleeing immediately.

🇷🇴 Elefanți de savană în habitat împădurit. Un element inedit din această tură în Kenya a fost ascunderea elefanților în vegetație. Priviți de la sol aceștia se pierdeau imediat printre arbori și arbuști, dar de departe (în cazul imaginii de pe alt versant) se mai puteau zări părți din trupurile lor masive.

🇬🇧Savanna elephants in a forested habitat. A unique element of this tour in Kenya was the elephants hiding in the vegetation. Seen from the ground, they were immediately lost among the trees and bushes, but from afar (in the case of the image from another slope) parts of their massive bodies could still be seen.

🇷🇴 Deși am observat-o de la mare distanță și în alte regiuni din Kenya, aici în pădurea tropicală am avut parte de această specie într-un număr destul de mare și mai ales destul de aproape de oameni.
Se hrănește mai ales cu frunze tinere, dar nu refuză nici fructele, semințele, florile sau chiar insectele.
Trăiește cea mai mare parte a timpului în arbori iar coada lungă o ajută la salturile de până la 12m lungime între crengile copacilor.
Franjurii aceia albi de pe lateralele corpului le dau o eleganță aparte dar joacă și un rol de „parașuta” atunci când sar.

🇬🇧 Although I have observed it from a great distance in other regions of Kenya too, here in the rainforest I have seen this species in quite large numbers and especially quite close to people.
It feeds mainly on young leaves, but does not refuse fruits, seeds, flowers or even insects.
It lives most of the time in trees and its long tail helps it to jump up to 12m long between tree branches.
The white mantle gives them a special elegance but also plays a role of a "parachute" when jumping.

🇷🇴 Noi le zicem sunbirds. Nu știu termenul corect în română. Sunt spectaculoase mai ales în lumina soarelui, penele lor au irizații metalice. Sunt foarte multe specii, anul acesta am reușit să vedem ceva mai multe, iar aceasta este preferata mea. Dacă nu bate soarele se vede doar galben cu negru. Dacă bate soarele pieptul masculului pare roșu-portocaliu. iar penele lungi din coadă fac această pasăre și mai frumoasă.

🇬🇧 We call them sunbirds. I don't know the correct term in Romanian. They are especially spectacular in sunlight, their feathers have metallic iridescence. There are many species, this year we managed to see a few more, and this one is my favorite. If the sun is not shining, you can only see yellow and black. If the light is on them, the male's chest looks red-orange. and the long tail feathers make this bird even more beautiful.
