The migrations are incredible at the Silvado hide! The sessions have been great and have yielded lots of photos of different residents! Today we spotted 9 species of migrants that are heading south over the next few days!

And it’s back in full force!

The sessions at the Silvado hide have been exactly what the season calls for: migratory birds passing through this area and gathering strength for their journey. We take this opportunity to help them reach their destination successfully.

During this migration season, every day brings new surprises!
This time, a juvenile woodchat shrike decided to come take a morning bath!

On the day of the eclipse, that’s how we started the morning!
We had another successful outing with the Acrocephalus arundinaceus—this time, just a juvenile.
At the Silvado hide, our songbirds are still there, along with a few more surprises!

Poker de Rouxinóis!♠️♥️♣️♦️
In Portugal, we use the name “Rouxinol” to refer to these four species that are regular visitors to our country: Acrocephalus arundinaceus, Acrocephalus scirpaceus, Cettia cetti and Luscinia megarhynchos.

They aren’t easy to photograph because, even though they’re excellent singers, they’re always hidden in reeds areas or dense foliage!
Photographing all four species in a single day here in Portugal is something special!

Another example of good luck around here: cutting two paths through a patch of reeds and rushes with a pair of hand shears, making the most of the natural perches already present on the site, and trying to ensure they don’t have a distracting background. Carrying all the necessary equipment on your back to the location. Setting up a hide while being devoured by mosquitoes.
Listening to the surroundings, knowing what you’re hearing, attracting what you’ve heard, and photographing two extremely elusive species in this location—and in general, one of these species is very difficult to get clear photos of.
Another lucky week for many, but luck involves spending more than 10 hours a day at each site, listening to the silence of the birds and taking in every inch of the terrain.
