Yesterday we made the difficult decision, in consultation with Achi’s doctors, to let him rest. We wanted to thank all of you that were with us through the happy times and the sad, the incredible trips and epic adventures to the heartbreaking hospital stays. It meant so much to us sharing the happy times with you, and all of the messages and comments letting us know how much you enjoyed his journey. And likewise it meant so much to us during the hard times when he was sick, when your messages of love and support helped carry us through.
As many of you will know, Achi had a leishmania relapse in early September after about 15 months of remission. We treated again, and things seemed to be going well until the new year. That’s when we learned the parasite had already come back, having become resistant to the medication. We attempted to treat again in January, and did see some small improvements to his test results, but unfortunately they did not translate into improving quality of life, as they had every time before. Additionally, some new complications arose this time due to prolonged treatment, and over the last couple of weeks it had become clear that we weren’t going to get another miracle.
While we wanted nothing more than to keep fighting, we’d already asked so much of him, and we knew that he was tired. That it was time to let him have peace while he was still Achi. While he still had his dignity.
You’ll always be in our hearts Achinho, loved forever, gone but never forgotten. You were taken far too soon, and we miss you so much 💔
