No meio do Lago Titicaca, perto de Puno (Peru), o povo de Uros vive em ilhas de junco flutuantes. Diz-se que o objetivo das ilhas flutuantes era originalmente defensivo, pelo que podiam ser movidas sempre que necessário. Tanto a ilha como a torre de vigia e os barcos são feitos de juncos de totora secos. O povo de Uros subsiste principalmente da pesca, da caça de pássaros e ovos e do artesanato.

Out on the middle of Lake Titicaca, near Puno (Peru), the Uros people live on man-made floating reed islands. It is said the purpose of the floating islands was originally defensive, so they could be moved whenever necessary. Both the island, the watch tower and the boats are made of dried totora reeds. The Uros people subsist mostly by fishing, hunting birds and gathering eggs and making handicraft.
