Back in 2005, all we had was an American Express guide and a map. There were no smartphones and no internet in our pockets. It was also the first of many journeys I would take with Ricardo Henriques . I carried my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 4500, alongside a Nikon F80.

We crossed Morocco from north to south and returned along the Atlantic coast.

More than twenty years later, I found myself back in Fez, a city I remembered above all for its extraordinary medina: intense, chaotic and demanding. A place, where interacting with merchants was an essential part of the experience.

This time, I found a different Fez. Many younger shopkeepers now spend more time on their phones, and their approach is less persistent. Yet despite these changes, the city has not lost its soul.
