📍Getting there: The easiest way to reach the beach is via the marked hiking trail starting from the Cabo da Roca lighthouse. The descent takes about 30–40 minutes.

🏖️ What to bring: Pack plenty of water, food, and sunscreen, as there are no facilities on the beach.

🌊 Safety: The Atlantic Ocean in this area has strong currents and large waves. Swimming is recommended only for experienced swimmers, and always keep an eye on the tide.

🌞 Pro tip: For the best light, it is worth arriving in the late afternoon, shortly before sunset.

The Palace of Marquês de Pombal and its gardens could easily be a source of great pride for Hungarians—if only they knew the history behind it. When the Marquis of Pombal decided to build his summer residence and model farm in Oeiras in the late 1740s, he commissioned Carlos Mardel, a Hungarian architect originally from Pozsony (Bratislava), to bring his vision to life. Mardel designed not only the palace itself but also the entire park system, the pavilions, the waterworks, and the estate's agricultural buildings. Originally a military engineer and an expert in hydraulics—famous for completing Lisbon’s iconic Águas Livres Aqueduct—Mardel fully put his expertise to work here in Oeiras.

He designed a complex water supply system that gathered water from surrounding natural springs. 💦 This brilliant network fed the gardens' irrigation, the grand fountains, and the palace’s entire agricultural section.

Although he became world-renowned under the name Carlos Mardel, he was born in the former Kingdom of Hungary and arrived in Portugal as a young adult, quickly rising to become one of the most prominent and respected architects of his era. The gardens of the Oeiras palace remain one of his best-preserved masterpieces, where engineering precision and artistic Baroque splendor perfectly intertwine.

This place is easily in my top 3 restaurants. I’ve been enthusiastically taking my guests to Moinho Dom Quixote since last year because of its unique atmosphere, delicious food, and stunning views. This old windmill was once used for grinding wheat and stood in ruins, waiting for someone to see its true potential. Since 1982, the owners have been lovingly restoring the garden, and today, it has become a popular hotspot even among the locals.
