For me, being a woman is a privilege, not a burden or disadvantage.

I can work with women freely and help them celebrate themselves without embarrassment. It gives so much joy, freedom and inspiration! God bless women.

A good portrait can be taken only in an atmosphere of freedom and safety, where the sitter feels relaxed and comfortable. It gives a chance to capture candid shots. That's why my first goal in sessions is to create this space.

Sometimes it leads to unexpected events, and I become a witness to a very intimate process of self-exploring.

Self-expression of a photographer is not as important as self-exploring of a portrayed one. Let me tell you more.

If two different photographers took a picture of one model, they would have two totally different pictures. That's because there is always a reflection of a photographer in the portrait. And the tricky thing is to not let this reflection become the main object.

The main object of the portrait is the model's personality. And I see my task as helping my models to let them just be in front of my camera and explore themselves while I'm taking pictures.

Usually in the result my models say WOW THATS SO ME!

Yes, my darling. That's you. I wanted to show the real you to the world.

All of the movements for any rights are cheap, unless they make the change happen.

The change might be the perception of human's beauty. I thought that natural beauty is trending now and everybody knows that. Because, you know, all the mass media is about diversity, naturalness e t.c.

Turned out it's just a a game of status. And a lot of effort is needed for the shift to happen. In reality, people are still convinced: a woman needs makeup to be beautiful. In 2022! Makeup! I was shocked reading it.

The change happens when the reality changes, not the talk.

It takes a lot to know a woman.

When I was younger, I used to take pictures just to show myself. Now I photograph to show people through my eyes. That's not just a reflection of me on their faces: it's their true, natural faces which are blooming when I look at them.

It takes a lot of curiosity, patience, love, kindness, empathy. I cultivate all of this in myself: that's an essence of a portrait photographer.

Everybody is a genius at something. Everybody. Sometimes it's obvious and one takes it for granted. Bit sometimes it takes a lot of time to discover your sparkle. Though never too late.

If a customer has become my friend, I have done a good job.

That's what happened with Mary. On our very first session, it turned out we attended the same uni and the same faculty! Then there was another session, and then we became friends. We would live in neighbouring houses: she could come to me in the evening and we could do some photo experiments. She've been my Muse at the time.

Our friendship wasn't long. After two years, our ways split, but I still have memories and photos.

Those pictures are so about her! The wild girl with a stern look and wavy hair.

Publishing it for the first time. Such portraits are created due to the model's trust in the photographer.

The picture was taken accidentally. I was in the process of making beauty shots for a makeup artist portfolio. But Olga, the model, looked into the camera with a calm, a bit sad look. And I pushed the button. I've published other, more glamorous pictures, and this photo was archived for five years until I've been up to revive my photography career.

For me, a good photo is always full of life and motion. It's a captured, capsulated, authentic moment. I never ask my models to pose for me. Instead I focus on creating a safe space for one's self-expression.

These pictures were taken in 2017 on a cold, moody October day. Angelica and me were catching the last warm days before a long Baltic winter.

Once I had the privilege to capture Marie.

The studio I'd been renting those days was freezing, but Marie wore just a t-shirt and jeans. She cared about her look and didn't care about discomfort. As a result, we got such warming pictures.
