My first attempt at a Deep Sky Object. The Andromeda galaxy is at about 40° elevation in the west just after dark at the moment. If you are in a really dark area you may see it as a faint smudge with the naked eye.
This spiral galaxy is in fact about six times the size of the moon as viewed from earth and is the largest object (excluding the Milky Way) in the sky. It is 2.5 million light years from earth and about 1.5 times the size of our Milky Way galaxy.
This image is the result of just over one hour of light gathering to build a picture. With even more light the hazy area extending out around the core would have more detail so I hope to improve on this with future efforts.
