Toreo de salón
This is a form of training for aspiring matadors, taking place in a sandy ring without live animals. The exercises are done in pairs, where one student plays the role of the bull holding real horns in their hands, while the other practices specific sequences of moves and dodges (known as pases).
Wooden or metal structures filled with straw are also frequently used to train the final phase (tercio de muerte), which involves plunging the sword.
Students spend hours refining their wrist movements using a heavy pink-and-yellow capote and a smaller red muleta. These movements must be fluid and elegant - resembling classical dance.
Pictures were taken in the Museo Taurino in Alicante. Special thanks to these two young gentlemen who agreed to be photographed during their training.
