Wielka strata dla świata sztuki i ekologii.
Sebastião Salgado, the legendary Brazilian photographer and environmentalist, has passed away at 81.
Renowned for his powerful black-and-white images capturing human suffering and the grandeur of nature, Salgado's work spanned over 130 countries during a 55-year career. His seminal projects include "Workers," "Exodus," and "Genesis," which documented labor, migration, and pristine landscapes, respectively.
In the late 1990s, Salgado and his wife, Lélia Wanick Salgado, founded Instituto Terra, a reforestation initiative in Brazil's Minas Gerais state. Over two decades, they transformed a degraded cattle ranch into a thriving forest by planting over 2 million trees, restoring biodiversity and inspiring global conservation efforts.
Salgado's life and work were also chronicled in the Oscar-nominated documentary "The Salt of the Earth" (2014), co-directed by his son Juliano and Wim Wenders.
He passed away on May 23, 2025, in Paris, due to leukemia linked to malaria contracted during his work in Indonesia in 2010.
Salgado's legacy endures through his evocative photography and unwavering commitment to environmental restoration. May he rest in peace.
