Pakistan’s Markhor & Ibex Trophy Hunting Revenue

Pakistan generated over Rs. 1.83 billion from Markhor and Ibex trophy hunting between 2023 and 2025, according to data shared by the Ministry of Climate Change in the Senate.

Revenue by region:

* 🇵🇰 Balochistan — Rs. 760 million
* 🏔️ Gilgit-Baltistan — over Rs. 620 million
* Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — Rs. 447.8 million
* Sindh — around Rs. 3.1 million

Under the current policy, 80% of the hunting revenue is allocated to local communities, while 20% goes to provincial wildlife departments.

The figures highlight the potential of wildlife conservation to generate significant economic benefits for communities living in remote mountain regions. However, the Ministry also revealed that there is currently no central mechanism to independently audit how community funds are distributed.

This raises an important question: If conservation generates millions for local communities, how can we ensure the money reaches them transparently and effectively?

Conservation should benefit wildlife—and the communities protecting it. 🌿🏔️
