Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Like other areas, Peshawar sub-division is also in the grip of drugs!
"My friends used to say that hashish addiction refreshes a person and makes him feel calm and relaxed. I myself had never used any drugs but after listening to my friends I started using Hashish at the age of 18 and then gradually became addicted to it. Wondering what the hell is going on here? "
These are the words of Yasir Afridi, who belongs to the old sub-division Hassan Khel. Yasir Afridi is a 10th class student and the only and youngest brother of his six sisters, who comes from a poor family.
Yasir's mother has worked hard to raise her children without any support. She has high hopes for Yasir. Yasir says that this was a very wrong thing to do and he is very ashamed of it. Because of this I dropped out of school and started walking around. When my mother and family found out, they were devastated and tried hard to get me to give up drugs. My studies were affected and I was expelled from school. Now I wonder if this poison is destroying our future, why do we use something that is ruining us.
Now I am determined to give up Hashish use and re-enter school, now I will study and fulfill my mother's expectations. I'm trying to stop my friends from this curse too. "
Like other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the former FR Peshawar is also addicted to drugs. "We have played a key role in eradicating drugs and steps are being taken for further prevention," local police said.
But on the other hand, the locals are not happy with the performance of the police. According to a local elder from Bora, the entire population of FR Peshawar is 64000 whereas up to 45% of drugs are used, of which 35% are Hashish and 5% are various narcotics. The perpetrators are mostly children and young people between the ages of 17 and 22.
According to the local leader, voices against drugs were raised several times under the auspices of the National Jirga which proved fruitless. He said that the population of our old sub-division Hassan Khel is about five thousand but unfortunately even in such a small population Hashish is being used in public while the use of narcotics is increasing. He also questioned the performance of the police agencies saying that they know who is involved in this crime, where the drugs are smuggled from, they are aware of the whole matter, the police have taken action many times but The accused are released after taking bribe.
The local elders of FR Peshawar say that the majority of the people in the area are from the backward classes. The children are engulfed in flames where all our hopes are dashed. He claimed that before the integration of FATA, the area was safe from this menace but after the integration, police outposts have become ubiquitous, yet drug trafficking has become commonplace, now one child in every third family, Is suffering
He said that if the administration wanted, it could ensure the prevention of drug menace in the area. Destroy the future of young children by giving them drugs in the hands of greed for money. Involved in the murder of humanity.
According to the elders, no action has been taken so far to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs in the area and no protest has ever been staged by the people of the area. "And we, the tribes, have remained silent. We have to take practical steps against this scourge ourselves, and if nothing else, at least we can record our protest."
