Cultural presentation of Salaknib Martial Arts System members during the United Architects of the Philippines Cordillera Chapter-Communications Team 14th Induction & 13th Anniversary Ceremonies, August 2025.
This what we call "pattong" from Mountain Province, a traditional war dance of the Bontoc people. It's a vibrant and historic cultural dance of the Bontoc people, representing courage, martial tradition, and community celebration in Mountain Province.
The men are wearing "ba-ag" (G-String), also called "wanes" or "bahag", a type of loincloth made from woven fabric. It's a significant part of the cultural identity for Cordillerans and fundamental traditional garment for male performers of the Pattong dance.
The ladies are wearing "lufid" or "tapis" traditional wrapped skirt. It's a rectangular piece of handwoven cloth, wrapped around the waist and secured in place with "wakes" or "bakget", a traditionally made of thick, woven bark fiber.
There are different dances in the Cordillera as it consists of 6 provinces. So it follows with the beat of the gongs (gangsa) and/or solibao and other traditional musical instruments, but it's widely known as "tayaw" though every province or ethnolinguistic group has distinctions.
And these are performed for various rituals such as wedding, thanksgiving, harvest, victory daily life etc.
