“Always believe in yourself and always stretch yourself beyond your limits. Your life is worth a lot more than you think because you are capable of accomplishing more than you know. You have more potential than you think, but you will never know your full potential unless you keep challenging yourself and pushing beyond your own self imposed limits.”

Breaking off my temporary social media detox to share my realizations since the enhanced community quarantine has started.

This pandemic teaches us lessons and opens a lot of opportunities. Instead of focusing on negative stuff, we must switch perspectives and instead, be grateful that even with this uncertainty, there are still positive things happening around us such as technological innovations, lesser pollution and better air quality. That we should maximize our time in learning new skills (especially online), strengthening beliefs, and cherishing time with family. We must also shift our energy for the improvement of our own well-being by doing home work outs to be physically fit as this crisis greatly reminded us how important our health is (including mental health). Because of this, I made a conscious decision not to stress about the things I have no control over. We cannot do anything about other people’s opinion and how the government officials handle this situation. The least that we can do to keep the peace and order is to cooperate. We may also unfollow those people who have been spreading fear and fake news, including those who have strong political views to keep our sanity while we continue to look for activities that will divert our attention from scrolling at our newsfeeds. This shouldn’t stop us from doing things that will particularly help us thrive and become better versions of ourselves once this pandemic subsides. Lastly, this made me realize that we should always look for ways in growing ourselves even in a very limited setting.💕

📍Seminyak Beach, Bali

In continuation to my last post, here are the things that I have been doing to cope up with monotony:

•Journaling
•Binge-watching on travel blogs
•Starting a passion project
•Watching DIY arts & crafts/projects
•Reading e-books
•Downloading a quarantine playlist
•Responding to emails/online inquiries
•Enrolling on e-learning courses
•Creating content for pages
•Livestreaming worship services
•Planning my next trip by writing down a detailed itinerary
•Learning new recipes
•Watching Tiktok and pranks for entertainment purposes
•Sending memes to friends and acquaintances to alleviate fear and anxiety

Most of these activities actually rely on technology and that is one of the things that I am really thankful for as it can now be considered as a necessity. I cannot imagine how our ancestors survived theirs as forms of communication then were limited and there was no internet yet during their time.

This phase in our lives taught us a lot of lessons; that not even a first-world country can prevent this from happening to them and no amount of nuclear weapon can destroy this so-called coronavirus. It was the first time that all the nations of the world had a common cause, and that is to find ways how to cure those who are sick and protect more people from being infected by this disease. This was an era wherein everyone had unity in preventing the spread of this unseen enemy.

My thoughts are with everyone out there who are dealing with this in their own way. May we all be warriors, not worriers. We will all get through this. 💛

📍Uma Pakel Agrotourism in Ubud, Bali

Ten to twenty years from now, we would all be looking back at this time in history. Like how my grandparents relayed stories about the World War 2, I would share the same story and the lessons that we gained from this experience about this pandemic to the younger generations of our family like:
1. This was the period wherein we learned how to be grateful for the little things in life.
2. We learned how to value our resources even more as there has been scarcity of supplies everywhere and going to a grocery would take you half a day to line up only to see empty shelves upon entering.
4. This was also when we were able prove to our clients that we really need to have emergency funds in times like these as we will never know what lies ahead.

Everything happened so fast and has gone out of control. Some of us are helpless that the most that you can do to "help" is just to stay at home. For someone who is very workaholic and not used to stay in one place for a long time, it can be very routinary and mundane. You really have to be imaginative as to how you would be able to make use of your extra time productively. We also have to be wary of our chosen activities as these might create a habit within us. It's good to make use of our time by learning new skills and doing a home work out. We, too, have to keep in mind that it is our responsibility to keep ourselves healthy, both mentally and physically, during this time. We must limit our exposure, not only from the virus itself, but moreso from toxic people and fake/negative news.

During this period, I have become more appreciative for:
~the home-cooked meals that I have been missing out on since I am always eating in fastfood restaurants.
~the priceless moments that we get to spend with our families.
~the WiFi that allows us to remain virtually connected and entertained.
~that magical feeling of not having to wake up on the sound of alarm clocks.

Not all the time, we get to have this privilege to stay at home and not feel guilty of slacking nor catching up on our sleep for hours that we can freely decide on. For those who are working from home now, we were spared from the stress of our daily commute to our offices.

📍Bali, Indonesia

Indonesian food served at the villa. 🍽

During Nyepi, people are supposed to stay indoors as the entire island of Bali turns off all lights and sounds, stops all traffic, closes the airport, deserts all worldly activities, and meditates, while complete silence and serenity reigns everywhere.

💡Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is closed. No planes will land or take off for 24 hours. All traffic across Bali is stopped. All shops are closed. No pedestrian traffic is allowed on the beach or on the streets. There will be local watchmen known as “pecalang” to ascertain that this rule is strictly obeyed. At night, all lights will have to be turned off. Hotels close all curtains so that no ray of light shines to the outside. All sound and music indoors should be held to its lowest volume.

Contrary to other cultures that celebrate New Year with vivacious and loud festivities, the pinnacle of Balinese New Year is a day of complete Silence. Hence the name Nyepi, meaning “to keep silent” in the local language, which falls on the day following the dark moon of the spring equinox. Nyepi is a day fully dedicated to connect oneself more closely with God through prayers and at the same time, as a day of self-introspection to decide on values, such as humanity, love, patience, kindness, and others, that should be kept forever.

📍Pura Lempuyang, Bali, Indonesia

Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi! 🙏

Every month of March, Balinese observe the Silence / Seclusion Day or what they call, "Nyepi".

What is Nyepi? It is the most important Balinese Hindu celebration, which marks the turn of the New Year in the Caka Calendar (one of the the calendars that Balinese abide by), following the new moon. It is a day of compulsory quietness (A.K.A. an introvert’s dream!) that is reserved for self-contemplation. Anything that may interfere with that purpose is restricted. This year (2021), Nyepi falls between March 14-15.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF NYEPI?

Nyepi is a time of purification prior to the New Year. All of the evil spirits that have been lurking over this island paradise are metaphorically told to pack their bags and scram! This is represented through a series of events that occur in the lead up to the sacred holiday. The day of silence influences the malevolent spirits into believing that there is no one left on the island; thus, causing them to leave.
