Did you know that the historic Yrocin Presidencia began construction in 1888 during the term of Don Anacleto Galarosa as Capitan Municipal? It was built to comply with the requirement of the Consejo de Administracion de Filipinas for a proper municipal building, or casa tribunal, in a newly established town.
Designed in a neo-classical style, the building features a massive 2.5-meter-thick facade wall and a grand wooden staircase at the entrance. Its second floor was made using some of the finest local hardwood available at the time. One of its most notable features is the municipal seal from the Commonwealth period, still visible on its facade today.
In 1939, two arches were added to connect the perimeter fence, enhancing both the front and side entrances. Although renovations have changed parts of the interior, the buildingโs exterior and overall structure have largely remained intact.
On April 10, 1989, the building was attacked by members of the New Peopleโs Army and was left riddled with bullet marks. It was later repaired, and the incident even inspired a film starring Anthony Alonzo, Chat Silayan, and Aga Muhlach titled โIrosin: Pagputok ng Araw, Babaha ng Dugo.โ
Until the early 1990s, the Presidencia served as the center of local governance, housing the mayorโs office, municipal departments, police headquarters, and even jail cells.
Today, the Irosin Presidencia stands as an important symbol of Irosinโs history, awaiting full restoration for future generations to appreciate.
