"SILHOUETTE"

Silhouette occurs when the subject is lit by a light source coming from behind them (this is called backlighting).

ISO

ISO refers to how sensitive your sensor is to the light it's being exposed to. The higher the ISO, the brighter the picture is, conversely, the lower the ISO, the darker the picture. The problem with using a high ISO is that it increases noise (ugly little multi-colored pixels that make the picture look fuzzy). Raising the ISO should only be used as a last-ditch effort to get a good exposure. I like to keep my ISO around 100. I can raise my ISO up to 12,800 if I so choose, but I rarely do this because of the noise that results. Typically, the more megapixels you cram on a sensor, the more noise will show up as a result of high ISOs. As cameras evolve and get better, the problem of 'too many megapixels shouldn't be too prominent.

SHUTTER SPEED

Shutter Speed
Shutter speed is how long the shutter opens to allow the sensor to be exposed to light. Shutter speeds usually range from "bulb" (the shutter opens as long as you want) to 1/8000th of a second. The longer the shutter is open, the more light is allowed to reach the sensor. Also, the longer the shutter is open, more chance there is for motion blur (it's common sense, if you think about it. It's way easier to stay still for 1/4500th of a second than it is to stay perfectly still for 30 seconds!). The faster the shutter speed, the easier it is to capture something moving fast. For example, if you were a sport photographer shooting NASCAR races, you would use a shutter speed of at least 1/6000. Anything slower than that might produce a blurry picture. The problem with using a fast shutter speed is that it lets in less light.

APERTURE (F-STOP)

Aperture (F-stop)
Aperture is how big (or small) the opening in your lens is. The aperture is also referred to as the F-stop. In a nutshell, the larger the F-stop number, the less light the lens lets in. For example, if you set your F-stop to F/8.0, the aperture is closed quite a bit, and not a lot of light is getting to your sensor. On the flip side, a smaller F-stop, such as F/2.8, lets in a large amount of light. In addition to the size of the aperture affecting light intake, it also affects what we call "depth of field." Depth of field refers to how much of your scene is in focus, basically. The lower the F-stop, the smaller the depth of field, the more blurred the background is. In the same way, a higher F-stop number increases the depth of field and allows for more of the image to be in focus.

Essential topics for Photography by Capture Pal

•The Basics

✓Exposure
What is exposure? It determines what is actually recorded on the digital sensor or film of the camera, and it's controlled by the three elements;

— Aperture (F-stop),

— Shutter Speed, and

— ISO.

— Conclusion
A good exposure happens when these 3 are blended in such as way that the image isn't too dark (underexposed) or too light (overexposed). You can see whether your image is exposed correctly by using your camera's histogram.
