I’ve known Chelene (and Mark) for a while now. Not as a bride at first, but as the makulit, happy-go-lucky bridesmaid who kept showing up at weddings I was shooting. The kind of energy that fills a room without even trying.

So when it was finally her turn to wear the dress, it already felt a little personal.
The day started light and easy. Lots of laughter during prep, a calm kind of excitement in the air. But things shifted during the first look with her family. Smiles holding strong… until they couldn’t anymore.

Then the ceremony happened. There are moments during weddings where you feel the mood change. You can almost hear hearts beating in sync. This was one of those.

Later in the evening was the dance with her dad. Dementia has slowly been taking pieces of memory away, but in that moment none of it seemed to matter. It was just a daughter and her father, sharing a dance that everyone in the room felt.

When we stepped out for portraits, the sky gave us one of those sunsets photographers secretly celebrate inside.

Chelene, the same joyful bridesmaid I’d seen at other weddings, now standing in the middle of her own story.

Still makulit.
Still full of light.
Just with Mark beside her this time.❤️

Chelene, a salingkit at a prenup shoot of one of her friends, to a bridesmaid in two weddings we shot, to finally being the bride in her own dream wedding. Such an honor to know you through the years!❤️

Some shoots stay with you long after you’ve packed your bags.

Not just because of the place — although Shirakawa-go has been on my personal bucket list for years — but because of how it felt to photograph two shy souls who trusted me with every frame.

Ed and Snaefel, 5°C, on-and-off rain, and little pockets of sunlight we kept chasing like kids. More wide frames, more breathing space — because love isn’t just about the close-ups, it’s about the world around it.

The quiet pathways, the cold you can almost feel to your bones, the way they slowly found their rhythm in between. Proof that sometimes everything aligns exactly when it’s meant to.

A dream location, a gentle kind of love, and a day I’ll never photograph the same way again. ❤️

By the time we arrived, she was already everywhere. Laughing with her bridesmaids, fixing little details, walking a little too fast, talking to everyone like the day wasn’t long enough to hold all her energy.

He was the opposite. Quiet. Unhurried. Hands in his pockets most of the time. Just standing back and watching everything unfolding with a small, steady smile.

She brought the spark, he kept things steady, and somewhere in between, the real moments naturally found us.

Congrats Bill and Macy and thanks for having us!

This session didn’t really feel like a shoot. We just spent the day walking around Kyoto together, turning into random side streets, stopping whenever something caught our eye, talking about little things along the way. Most of the time I stayed a few steps behind them, just observing. The way they held hands without thinking, the small laughs, the quiet in-between moments. Nothing staged, nothing rehearsed. Just real life happening in front of me. I simply followed and documented what was already there. Those honest, unscripted moments are always the ones that mean the most.
