Now that the winners are announced, I can finally post a few of my losing entries, shot last year, that didn't make it in the underwater photography competitions 2025/26. In fact, yet again for the 8th year in a row, none of them even get a mention! Awwww! ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜‚

Good news is that I don't care so much about winning, although, just like the lottery, it would be nice! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'll be travelling and diving again soon, and taking more shots of incredible and beautiful marine life in 2026.

This Devil scorpionfish AKA False stonefish (๐˜š๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ด) is often found in the shallow, sandy, or muck dive sites that I tend to frequent. I think they're quite scary looking fish, especially because of the head with hu**ed back and upturned mouth. Sometimes, I find ghostly white juveniles, but they can come in all sorts of colours and camouflage. This one was a large adult and I decided to shoot a profile. Scary but strangely beautiful too, they really are fearsome predators to boot!๐Ÿ˜

Cuttlefish like this one, have an incredible ability to change colour and texture at a whim.

As I focused and took this shot on a night dive, it had just morphed from brown and smooth to white and freckled.

A split second later it changed again to red and bumpy as it jetted off into the darkness. ๐Ÿฆ‘

During my last few dives in Puerto Galera this May, we came across a pair of these tiny, green filefish, what I believed to be juvenile ๐˜ˆ๐˜ค๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜บ๐˜ด ๐˜ด๐˜ฑ. These little fish seem to mimic the Halimeda green macroalgae they were found close to. An amazing sight almost unseen due to their cryptic camouflage! ๐Ÿ™‚

An Elysia sp. sacoglosson perched in its home and algae food source. My guide would spot a patch of mossy, blue stuff and immediately find some of these critters present. ๐Ÿ˜
